Resume Screening and Finalist Review

A broader search produces more applications, and that is an advantage rather than a burden. The difficulty is that most organizations handle the volume by narrowing it with keyword filters or automated screening tools, which reliably discard qualified people whose resumes are worded differently than expected.

Prism Data reads every resume. Each one is reviewed and scored by an I/O psychologist against criteria drawn from the requirements of the role, then sorted into a ranked shortlist with the reasoning behind it available to you.

How It Works

Screening is available as one or two stages, and either can be used on its own:

Criteria Development

Screening criteria and red-flag indicators derived from the knowledge, skills, abilities, and other characteristics the role actually requires, rather than from proxies like years of experience or school name.

Initial Screening

Every application read and scored against those criteria, producing a ranked shortlist you can act on with confidence about what the ranking means.

Finalist Review

In-depth comparative review of the remaining candidates, with written rationales documenting the relative strengths and gaps of each.

Interview Handoff

Screening notes passed to whoever conducts interviews, so the conversation starts from what the resume already told us rather than covering the same ground.

What You Get From It

Human review of every application produces a different shortlist than automated filtering, and one you can explain.

Candidates Who Would Have Been Filtered Out

Keyword systems reject applicants whose experience is relevant but described in different language. Human review does not make that error.

A Shortlist You Can Explain

Every ranking is tied to defined criteria, so you know why each candidate advanced and can articulate it to anyone who asks.

Time Returned to the Hiring Team

The people who need to make the decision spend their time on finalists rather than on the first pass.

Consistency Across the Pool

Every application is evaluated against the same standard by the same reviewer, which is difficult to achieve when screening is split across a busy team.

Where This Applies

High Application Volume

Searches that draw more applications than the hiring team can review carefully, where the alternative is skimming or automated filtering.

Remote and National Searches

Wider applicant pools where credentials, employers, and titles are unfamiliar and harder to evaluate at a glance.

Small Teams Without an HR Function

Organizations where the hiring manager is also running the business and does not have time to read two hundred resumes properly.
